COSMIC MESSAGE
M82, also known as the Cigar Galaxy, shows signs of a past close encounter with its neighbor, M81. This interaction may have stirred up its inner stars and gas, creating the unusual dark dust lanes seen in this photograph. M82 is a starburst galaxy with an active center, containing star clusters brighter than any in our Milky Way.
