COSMIC MESSAGE
The Jewel Box is an open cluster, a loose grouping of about 100 stars, in the southern constellation Crux. The cluster is about 7,500 light-years from Earth. It's named for the striking variety of colors, from the bright red supergiant Kappa Crucis to many blue stars. The cluster is relatively young, likely no older than 10 million years.
