A Prominent Solar Prominence

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

A solar prominence is a cloud of solar gas, held above the Sun's surface by its magnetic field. This image shows a prominent loop, large enough to easily fit Earth underneath it. These quiescent prominences can last about a month before potentially erupting in a coronal mass ejection.
