COSMIC MESSAGE
On August 27, 1997, twisting magnetic fields propelled this massive eruptive prominence over a hundred thousand miles above the Sun's surface. The superheated plasma of ionized gases reached temperatures of about 150,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope, or EIT, on the SOHO observatory recorded this detailed image in the light of ionized Helium atoms.
