Comet Hale-Bopp, seen from the Pik Terskol Observatory, hangs above a snowy, moonlit landscape. This image from April 13, 1997, captures the comet alongside the bright stars of Perseus. Hale-Bopp was one of the most observed comets of the 20th century. It appeared brightest in the spring sky for Northern Hemisphere observers.
