A Total Eclipse of the Sun

COSMIC MESSAGE
On February 26, 1998, a total solar eclipse darkened the sky over the Americas. This rare event occurs because the Moon and Sun have nearly the same apparent size from Earth. If the Moon were farther away, it would appear too small to block the Sun completely. This particular eclipse was the last visible from the Americas in the 20th century.
