COSMIC MESSAGE

The Hercules Cluster is a collection of galaxies about 650 million light-years away. It contains many spiral galaxies, rich in gas and dust where new stars are forming, which appear with a blue tint in this composite image. There are fewer elliptical galaxies, which are older and lack star-forming material, showing a yellowish cast. Many galaxies in this cluster appear to be interacting or merging.
