Ocean Planet Pole To Pole

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor, SeaWiFS, maps subtle differences in Earth's ocean color. These projections show the North and South Poles, based on SeaWiFS data from September 1997 to July 1998. The 'color' depends on how sunlight reflects off phytoplankton, tiny organisms containing chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs blue and red light and reflects green.
