The World's Largest Ozone Hole
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Earth's ozone hole, seen here over the South Pole, was bigger than ever in 1998. Ozone protects us from damaging ultraviolet light from the Sun. Chemicals called CFCs and halons, released into the atmosphere, make the ozone layer vulnerable. The hole's large size was probably related to unusual weather patterns that year.
