Dust Hip-Deep on Phobos

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Landing on Mars' moon Phobos might be harder than previously thought due to moon dust. Recent photographs indicate a layer of fine powder, estimated to be a meter deep, covers the entire surface. This evidence comes from infrared pictures showing how quickly Phobos' surface cools after sunset. The Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft took this high-resolution picture last month.
