Aurora Above

On some nights, the sky puts on a show. This picture captures a particularly active and colorful aurora above Alaska. Auroras are more common near Earth's poles, caused by solar electrons and protons hitting molecules high in our atmosphere. They can sometimes be predicted after active solar events.
