Invader From Earth

These technicians are working on the solar-paneled Mars Polar Lander, a robotic spacecraft designed to explore the red planet. It's part of a series of missions searching for evidence of past or present life on Mars. Launched atop a Delta II rocket, it was the first to make a soft landing near Mars' South Pole. Its arrival was planned for December, which is springtime for the Martian Southern Hemisphere.
