NGC 253, also known as the Sculptor Galaxy, is one of the brightest and dustiest spiral galaxies. Discovered in 1783 by Caroline Herschel, it lies about ten million light-years away. This galaxy is the largest member of the Sculptor Group, the closest group to our own Local Group, and is actively forming new stars.
