COSMIC MESSAGE
This computer-simulated map shows a network of microlensing caustics. In gravitational microlensing, the gravity of foreground stars magnifies light from background objects like distant stars or quasars. The sharp, bright curved lines on the map represent these caustics. When a background quasar crosses a caustic, its light can be significantly magnified.
