COSMIC MESSAGE
M3 is an immense ball of half a million stars, older than our sun. It sits 30,000 light-years above the plane of our galaxy, one of about 250 globular star clusters in our galactic halo. Individual stars are hard to distinguish in the dense core, but on the outskirts, cool red giants appear yellowish, while hotter giants show different colors.
