COSMIC MESSAGE
During a total solar eclipse, the Moon almost perfectly blocks the Sun. The Sun is about 400 times wider than the Moon, but it is also about 400 times farther away. This coincidence makes them appear roughly the same size in the sky. On August 11, 1999, this alignment allowed prominences to be seen around the Moon's dark edge.
