A Big Black Hole Floats By
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
A black hole can glide silently through space, making it difficult to detect. Until recently, all known galactic black holes were part of binary star systems, where gas from a companion star would swirl into them, emitting X-rays. However, astronomers have now found a mysteriously dark object that amplified the light of a background star through gravitational lensing. This suggests a solitary black hole passing in front of a distant star.
