White dwarf stars are intensely hot, but they are cooling because their interior nuclear fires no longer burn. This Hubble Space Telescope image shows a region near the center of the globular cluster M4. Researchers found a large concentration of white dwarf stars here, as expected for the evolution of low-mass stars.
