The HETE-2 satellite, designed to hunt gamma-ray bursts, launched from a Pegasus rocket carried by a Lockheed L-1011 aircraft. The Stargazer aircraft released the rocket, which then successfully carried HETE-2 into orbit. This mission helped us detect and locate these mysterious, high-energy flashes.
