Gemini North Images Bow Shock Near Galactic Center

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The center of our Milky Way Galaxy is a busy place, with massive stars, gas rings, and a black hole. The Gemini North telescope in Hawaii imaged a star only three light years from the center. This star is colliding with gas and dust, creating a bow shock, a feature similar to a boat moving through water.
