COSMIC MESSAGE

In March 2000, a massive explosion, a gamma-ray burst (GRB 000301C), was detected across the universe. Instruments like Earth-orbiting RXTE, Sun-orbiting Ulysses, and asteroid-orbiting NEAR all detected a 10-second burst of high-frequency gamma radiation. Within 48 hours, the Nordic Optical Telescope observed its optical counterpart. This event allowed astronomers to study a powerful cosmic phenomenon.
