The EUVE satellite mapped the extreme ultraviolet sky in 1992. Before that, it was thought that the hydrogen between the stars would block extreme ultraviolet light. However, it turned out that interstellar hydrogen is patchy. This map shows the distribution of extreme ultraviolet sources across the sky.
