The Trifid Nebula from AAO
NASA APOD · Anglo-Australian Observatory
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Trifid Nebula, also known as M20, is a region of both beauty and chaos in the constellation Sagittarius. It is a star-forming region where energetic processes create a mix of colors. The red glow comes from hydrogen gas energized by starlight. Dark dust filaments, created in the atmospheres of old stars and supernova debris, lace through the nebula.
