Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 was famous for its "string of pearls" appearance and its collision with Jupiter. Jupiter's gravity tore the comet's original nucleus into pieces in 1992. These pieces are visible in this Hubble Space Telescope composite image, strung out along the comet's orbital path.
