The X-Ray Jets of XTE J1550
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
X-ray jets are seen streaming away from the black hole candidate XTE J1550-564. In 1998, this system had a huge outburst, sending material hurtling into space at nearly the speed of light. The Chandra X-ray Observatory documented these jets, showing how they impacted existing gas and heated it to glow in X-rays. The hot spots in the image have moved over three light-years in just a few years.
