NGC 1818: A Young Globular Cluster

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Globular clusters are ancient collections of stars, some of the oldest structures in our galaxy. NGC 1818, however, is a relatively young globular cluster, located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Most globular clusters formed early in the Milky Way's history, and many were destroyed over time by interactions within the galaxy. This image from the Hubble Space Telescope shows a dense collection of stars, indicating a relatively young age for a globular cluster.
