COSMIC MESSAGE
A rocket launches into an aurora in the first launch of 2003 from Poker Flat Research Range in Alaska. The image, taken on January 27th, shows the fiery tracks of both solid fuel stages of a Black Brant IX sounding rocket. This rocket carried its payload to an altitude of 385 kilometers, high into the green auroral display.
