X-Rays from M83

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Spiral galaxy M83 lies twelve million light-years from Earth in the constellation Hydra. Its sweeping spiral arms, prominent in visible light, are still apparent in this Chandra Observatory false-color x-ray image. They are traced by diffuse, hot, x-ray emitting gas. More striking in the x-ray image is the galaxy's bright central region.
