The Heart in NGC 346

On Valentine's Day, astronomers found this heart-shaped cloud of hot, X-ray emitting gas in star cluster NGC 346. It sits in our neighboring galaxy, the Small Magellanic Cloud. The Chandra Observatory image also shows a strong X-ray source, HD 5980, a massive binary star system within the cluster.
