If you could look down on the North Pole of Venus, this is what you would see. The Magellan probe orbited Venus from 1990 to 1994, using radar to peer through thick clouds and build this image. Visible as the bright patch below central North is Venus' highest mountain, Maxwell Montes. Other features include mountains, coronas, impact craters, tessera, ridges, and lava flows.
