COSMIC MESSAGE

This composite image combines 22 separate pictures of the Moon and Sun, all taken during the total solar eclipse of June 21, 2001. The exposures were digitally processed to reveal details no single camera exposure or naked-eye observation could easily show. Most striking are the flowing streamers of the Sun's outer atmosphere, the solar corona, which are notoriously difficult to see except during a total eclipse.
