This is the highest resolution image to date of another planet's surface, taken by the Spirit rover on Mars. The microscope on Spirit's instrument arm captured this black and white image, spanning only 1.5 centimeters across. Details smaller than a tenth of a millimeter are visible, showing Martian soil with clumping properties similar to cocoa powder.
