Phases of Venus

NASA APOD · John Rummel
COSMIC MESSAGE

Venus, the second planet from the Sun, is the third brightest object in our sky. Like our Moon, it shows phases as it orbits the Sun, which are visible through a telescope. This composite of telescopic views illustrates how Venus progresses through its phases, and how its apparent size changes. As it moves between us and the Sun, it grows larger but shows less of its sunlit face.
