The Galaxy Within Centaurus A
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Spitzer Space Telescope peered into Centaurus A, the closest active galaxy to Earth. Its infrared cameras revealed a twisted dust cloud, about 1,000 light-years across, shaped like a parallelogram. This feature is likely the result of a smaller spiral galaxy falling into the giant Centaurus A.
