This 2.7-meter mirror, made of Zerodur glass-ceramic, is for the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy, SOFIA. Its transparent surface has not yet received its reflective coating, so the internal honeycomb structure, which reduces weight, is visible. This mirror will fly on a modified Boeing 747SP, allowing infrared astronomy high above Earth's water vapor.
