Phobos: Doomed Moon of Mars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Mars, named for the Roman god of war, has two tiny moons, Phobos and Deimos, whose names are derived from the Greek for Fear and Panic. Phobos, the larger moon, is a cratered, asteroid-like object. This stunning color image from the Mars Express spacecraft shows its surface in detail. Scientists believe these Martian moons may be captured asteroids from the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
