The Rosette Nebula

COSMIC MESSAGE

The Rosette Nebula, also known as NGC 2237, is a flowery emission nebula in Monoceros. Inside, an open cluster of bright young stars, NGC 2244, has formed about four million years ago. The stellar winds from these stars are clearing a hole in the nebula's center. Ultraviolet light from the hot cluster stars ionizes the surrounding gas, causing it to glow.
