An iceberg the size of Long Island, B-15A, broke off Antarctica and traveled 100 kilometers across the Ross Sea. It struck a submarine shoal, narrowly avoiding a collision with the massive Drygalski Ice Tongue, visible in the lower right. This event occurred during the Southern Hemisphere's summer.
