Forty years ago, in 1965, Edward White made history with the first U.S. spacewalk during the Gemini IV mission. Tethered to his capsule, he used a compressed gas 'zip gun' for maneuvering. For 23 minutes, White floated freely in low Earth orbit, experiencing the vastness of space above the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
