Epimetheus and Janus: Interchangeable Moons of Saturn

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

These two moons of Saturn, Epimetheus and Janus, swap orbits every few years. Their orbital radii are separated by less than the moons' own radii, a mere 50 kilometers. One moon gradually catches up to the other, then they gravitationally interact and exchange places. This unique dance has fascinated astronomers since their discovery.
