Auroras usually appear high above Earth, but the International Space Station orbits at a similar altitude, sometimes flying through them. In 2003, ISS Science Officer Don Pettit captured this green aurora from orbit. He described the shifting auroras as appearing to crawl around like giant amoebas, a unique perspective on a common phenomenon.
