NGC 3242: The Ghost of Jupiter

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 3242 is a planetary nebula, the remnant of a star similar to our Sun that has shed its outer layers. At its center, a white dwarf star is visible, the core of the original star. Sometimes called "The Ghost of Jupiter" due to its faint, round appearance, NGC 3242 is light-years across, vastly larger than Jupiter itself.
