A Stereo Sun

NASA APOD · Greg Piepol
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image offers a stereo view of the Sun, created from pictures taken between March 2004 and April 2005. When viewed with red/blue glasses, the Sun's disk, sunspots, filaments, and prominences appear in exaggerated 3D. The original images were recorded through a hydrogen-alpha filter, which only transmits light from hydrogen atoms in the solar atmosphere.
