NASA APOD · David Malin
COSMIC MESSAGE

Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our Sun, is part of the Alpha Centauri triple star system. Light takes only 4.22 years to reach us from this small red star, which is visible only through a telescope. Proxima Centauri was discovered in 1915, and it is so faint that it is often overlooked. The brightest star in the Alpha Centauri system is similar to our Sun.
