Mars and the Star Clusters

NASA APOD · Chris Schur
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image captures Mars near the open star cluster M35, a view similar to what was seen in western skies on April 16. M35 is a cluster of hundreds of stars, about 3,000 light-years distant. Above and to the left of M35, the fainter cluster NGC 2158 is visible. Mars itself is much closer, just over 14 light-minutes from Earth, appearing in the foreground near the foot stars of the constellation Gemini.
