Volcanic Bumpy Boulder on Mars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The robotic Spirit rover found this unusually textured rock on Mars, dubbed Bumpy Boulder. It measures just under half a meter high. The pits on the rock are likely vesicles, formed by hot gas bubbling out of hot rock ejected by a Martian volcano. Several similar rocks are visible nearby, suggesting a volcanic origin for the area.
