The Bumper 2, launched in July 1950, was the first rocket to lift off from Cape Canaveral, Florida. This ambitious two-stage rocket combined a V-2 missile base with a WAC Corporal rocket. Its upper stage reached nearly 400 kilometers, a record altitude for the time.
