COSMIC MESSAGE

In January 2007, Comet McNaught reached a peak brightness that surpassed Venus. Northern Hemisphere observers saw a bright comet head and a faint, elongated tail near sunrise and sunset. Its brightness reached magnitude -5, making it the brightest comet since Ikeya-Seki in 1965.
