Sgr A*: Fast Stars Near the Galactic Center
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Stars near the center of our Milky Way galaxy move very quickly. This time-lapse movie, taken in infrared light over eight years, tracks these stars. The yellow mark at the center shows the location of Sgr A*, a powerful radio source. The rapid motion of these stars indicates that a compact, massive object, likely a supermassive black hole, is pulling on them with its gravity.
