NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

About eleven thousand years ago, a star in Vela exploded, creating the Vela Supernova Remnant. The star's outer layers crashed into the interstellar medium, driving a shock wave still visible today. This image captures the filamentary and gigantic structure of that expanding shock wave.
